Inspiring Imaginative Play
All these toys inspire situational pretend play. According to Yale University child psychologist Dr. Dorothy Singer, this type of play helps children develop cognitive, social, emotional and motor skills – important ingredients in nurturing their school readiness. The key to getting the right play is the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of Play: a minimum of 30 minutes of imaginative play daily, a space to play and a teacher or parent to guide the play.

Just when you thought that all you had to do is look at the age requirements on toys along come oodles of recalls! It seems as though there is no need in visiting China because our homes are completely fitted with made in China items. As a lot of parents, the whole recall bit has left me a bit anxious with what to purchase for my daughter in terms of toys. However, after researching I have found that there are products out there that are even better than what I am used to. Playmobil is one such product. I remember the logo from years ago. Headquartered in Zirndorf, Germany these products are all European in their style but more importantly in where they are made. Too often children are bombarded with battery operated anything and everything. They are pushed away from expanding their mind and using their imagination. Playmobil is just the opposite. Simplistic designs of the 1-2-3 line are perfect for young fingers to manipulate. The simplicity of them calls for pretend play. For the 4 year and up group the sky is the limit on sets. From pirate ships to the Roman army with fairytale castles in between- there is a topic that suits all imaginations. Although searching for made outside of China products has been a bit tedious- it has been well worth the effort in some of the products that I have found.
